Services were Friday, December 10, at the East Lake Andes Lutheran Church, rural Armour.

Mavis Joan Hoffman was born to Lionel and Eunice (Sorenson) Barkley on July 7, 1934, in Wagner. She passed away Monday, December 6, 2021 at Sanford Vermillion Care Center, Vermillion.

Mavis attended school in Ravinia and graduated from Wagner High School in 1952. She married Richard Hoffman on January 24, 1956 and to this union one son, Richard K. Hoffman was born.

Mavis worked for Roy Crisman Sr. in the seed and chicken business. She then went to work for the Farmers Coop as a bookkeeper from 1969 to 1996. Mavis was active in the ELAL Church and Ladies Aide. She taught Sunday school and loved working with the children.

Mavis loved to cook and was a very good cook. She enjoyed traveling and cherished the vacations that she and Dick took with their granddaughters. She also loved raising a garden and canning together with Dick.

Thankful for having shared her life is son Richard Kenneth Hoffman and wife Janet of Huntsville, AL; two grandchildren: Miranda (Adam) Scholes and their two children Alivia and Avary of Sioux Falls and Heidi (Heath) Thomsen and their kids, Aubree, Archer and Anders of Sioux Falls; two sisters: Donna Barkley and Kay Pelle both of Denver, CO.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard D., a brother in infancy and many relatives and friends.
