MARY M. CIMPL
Funeral Mass was Friday, September 29 at the Assumption Catholic Church in Dante. Burial will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Wagner. Peters Funeral Home of Wagner was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Cimpl was born May 29, 1938 on the home place south of Wagner. She was the daughter of George and Mary (Cuka) Soukup. She died Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at the Good Samaritan Society in Scotland. Mary attained the age of 85 years, 3 months and 28 days.
Mary attended grade school for seven years in Tabor at St. Wenceslas Catholic School and one year in country school south of Wagner. She attended high school in Wagner and graduated in 1956. While attending high school, she worked at various grocery stores.
On October 22, 1956, she married the love of her life, Charles Cimpl at the St. John’s Catholic Church in Wagner. Three children were blessed to their union. After Charlie and Mary were married, they farmed together south of Dante. In 1988 they moved to Wagner and in 1992 Mary started her job at the Fort Randall Casino. She loved her job and meeting so many people. She retired after 20 years.
Mary was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Dante. She was also a member of the Altar Society, and a CCD teacher for many years. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters, Catholic Workmen (FCLS) and the VFW Auxiliary.
Mary’s most pride and joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary enjoyed playing cards, sewing, listening to and dancing to polka music.
Her greatest enjoyment was watching her family play sports and activities and visiting all her relatives and friends.
Thankful for sharing her life are her sister Eleanor Andersh of Wagner along with sister-in law, Evelyn Cimpl of Yankton; her three children: Cindy (Pat) Krcil, of Dante, Dan (Kelly) of Wagner and Doug of Dante; eight grandchildren: Kim (Devin) Bastemeyer, Kristen (Brock) Tucker, Ross (Linda) Cimpl, Erik (Lindsay) Cimpl, Erin (Chase) Kuhlman, Megan (Alex) Permann, Taylor Cimpl and Alexa (Jordan) Wunder; 16 great-grandchildren: Avori, Reagan and Jacksen Bastemeyer, Kashius and Emersyn Tucker, Preston Nedved, Charlee and Porter Cimpl, Collyns and Anya Cimpl, Owen, Hayes and Madison Kuhlman, Ian and Axel Permann, and Vara Wunder.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charlie, parents George and Mary Soukup, parents-in-law John and Francis Cimpl, brothers: Raymond (Albina) Soukup and Bob (Marie) Soukup; sister-Inlaw Francis “Fonda” (Leonard) Nedved; brothers-in-law: Wes Cimpl, Bob Andersh, and John (Irene) Cimpl; nephews: Bobby Soukup and Mike Cimpl; and niece Ann (Nedved) Morgan.
