M. EDA EHRISMAN
Funeral services for M. Eda Ehrisman, 94, are Wednesday, November 9 at 11 a.m. at Peters Funeral Home in Wagner. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:30 until 11 a.m. Burial is in the Bethlehem Lutheran (Norwegian) Cemetery, rural Avon.
M. Eda Ehrisman was born on September 22, 1928 in Wagner to Herman and Rose (Thaler) Olson. She was baptized into the Christian Faith on May 8th, 1932 by Rev. Otto Jensen, near Avon.
Eda lived the early part of her young life helping on the family farm. She attended Bur-beck Rouse School District #6 in rural Dante. Eda graduated from the eighth grade.
Eda was married on August 5, 1946. The young couple began farming together. To this union three daughters were born. In 1959 the family moved into Wagner.
Eda initially was employed part-time at Miller’s 5 &10. She later took a position as a nurses aide at the Wagner Hospital for five years. This sparked her passion for caring for others, which lead her to the Wagner Good Samaritan Center for an additional seven years as a nurses aide/medication aide.
With the encouragement of her family she acquired her GED. This gave her the tools she needed to attend SE Area Tech’s LPN program in Sioux Falls at the age of 47.
After graduation she moved the Tyndall to be near her parents and began employment at Tyndall’s Good Samaritan Center as a LPN. There she advanced her education with the Expanded LPN course. Eda continued there until her retirement in 1997 at the age of 69.
Education was an important goal in her life. She encouraged her daughters to continue their education after high school. She vowed to help them, they just needed to decide for themselves which path to follow, for which advice and support they are forever grateful.
Eda was always there for her parents and cared for them in their final years. Eda was very patriotic and was a life-time member of the VFW Auxiliary. She volunteered with the Senior Meal Program, delivering meals to shut-ins. Eda enjoyed knitting and sewing. She made over 200 lap robes and donated them to area nursing homes for the elderly. Eda was always willing to help someone in need, a beautiful trait she had learned from her parents.
Eda passed away on at the Avera Bormann Manor in Parkston on Friday, November 4, 2022, at the age of 94 years.
Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters: Rose Marie (David) Eitemiller, Mitchell, Kathy Ehrisman, Prescott, AZ, and Suzan (Gary) Denke, Crooks; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Eda was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Mildred, Ole T., and Charlotte.
