Lowell T. McFarland, 89, was called to his heavenly home December 4, 2020 surrounded by his children at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Sioux Falls. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, December 10, at Faith Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. A public visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 9 at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls.

Lowell Thomas was born to Dan and Clara (Mackenstadt) McFarland, October 29, 1931 in Wagner. He was baptized and confirmed at East Lake Andes Church and in 1949, graduated from Armour High School. On February 14, 1952 enlisted in the Navy and served during the Korean War. He received the following medals: National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal. He received an honorable discharge in 1956.

July 28th, 1957 Lowell married Darlene “Corky” Guenthner at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Armour.

In 1958, they moved to California where he worked for Foremost Dairies, delivering milk to some Hollywood stars and later worked for Collins Radio in accounting. In 1973, they moved back to Armour, where he worked and managed Douglas Feed Mill for the next 30 years. When he retired, he worked at the Veterans Office for Douglas County and in 2011, moved to Sioux Falls to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Lowell enjoyed working on projects, whether his own, his children’s or grandchildren’s, golfing, telling jokes, going to Bible Study at Faith Lutheran Church and loved working on his 1956 Chevy with his son. He was a member of the VFW Club and helped build caskets with his VFW friends.

This loving, caring, generous man will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Lowell is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Corky of Sioux Falls. His son, Steve Mc-Farland and Kristin Anderson of Sioux Falls. His two daughters, Kim (Tom) Sullivan of Sioux Falls and Kristi McFarland of Keller, TX; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeremy) Lindberg of Oakland, CA, Jonathon Sullivan and his fiance’ Chelsea Johnson of Sioux Falls, Michael Sullivan of Minneapolis, MN, Lauren McFarland of Sioux Falls and Noah McFarland of Sioux Falls; one great granddaughter, Zoe Lindberg of Oakland, CA and several nieces and nephews.
