Louis Otte, 90, of Lake Andes died Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Avera St. Benedict Health Center in Parkston. Funeral services were held Monday, January 22 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner. Burial was in St. Mark’s Catholic Cemetery in Lake Andes following the service. Peters Funeral Home of Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Louis Junior Otte passed January 18, 2024 at the Parkston Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Louie was born August 19, 1938 at the family home in Brownstown, IN to Louis Sr. and Louise (Waldkotter) Otte. In 1950, Louie, Dad, and family moved to Lake Andes, where they worked at the Fort Randall Dam. Louie graduated from Lake Andes High School in May of 1954.

He met the love of his life, Ann Carda and they were married November 24, 1955 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Lake Andes. To this union, they were blessed with five children. Louie and his family moved to Ohio. Louie and his family returned back to Lake Andes where he was a policeman for both Platte and Lake Andes. Later, he owned and operated a dairy farm in rural Lake Andes.

Louis favorite past time was fishing at the river and surrounding lakes. Always prowling where all the fish were biting. He loved hunting pheasants and deer. He made many trips to the Black Hills for deer and antelope hunting. In Louie’s later years, you could always find Louie making several trips to the Missouri River checking to see where the fish were biting.

Louis was an avid race car fan. He attended many races throughout his life. He mostly enjoyed watching the Otte’s Racing.

Thankful for having shared his life are his children: Nancy (Curtis) Price of Aurora, Susan (David) Florey of Lennox, John (Melody) Otte of Ravinia and Gerald (Jaime) Otte of Worthing; ten grandchildren: Doyle (Nicholle) Price, Wyatt (Ally) Price, Kristin Florey, Shawn Florey, Jacquelyn (Trevor) Deurmier, Luke, Beau, Brooke, Brandon and Preston Otte; six great grandchildren: Dawson, Kyler, Paisley, and Leonard Price, and Jackson and Anna Deurmier; and in-laws: Debbie Otte, Greenwood, IN, Harold (Pat) Carda, Bloomfield, CO, and Judie (Ron) Dilts of Wagner.

Louis was preceded in death by his son Tim Otte; wife Ann Otte; parents Louis and Louise Otte; in-laws Ed and Anne Carda; and siblings: Gerald (Ruby) Otte, Mary (Willie) Wienhorst, Helen (Henry) Sommers, Evelyn (Herschel) Harres, and Harold Otte.
