A Look Back at Avon

October 1911

John Cihak had a very successful sale on Monday. John has moved to Dante.

J.L. McNeeley and Lyle Vaughters left for Chamberlain to register for the last drawing for government land.

The young folks of Avon will give an entertainment and basket supper at the Avon Opera House on Halloween. A rousing time will be held.

Angelus Brandt has built a grainery and cow shed.

October 1935

Mr. and Mrs. Dan Van Gerpen were called upon to mourn the loss of an infant daughter.

Gus Schmidt is moving into the Andrew Pudwill house.

John Keller has moved back to town and has rented the Burns Auto Repair Shop.

Gerald Jonkers bought the Minnie Campbell farm last week.

Chester Fathke, Leo Marek and George Hauge left for NE to husk corn.

SCHOOL NEWS - Avon plays Tyndall Fri. and what a game that will be. Tyndall may have a tough, cocksure bunch but we will go through them like water through a sieve!!

October 1964

The Pirates smashed Delmont 47-14. Rodney Cahoy and Jan Pier were standouts on defense. Scoring were Kenny Ulrich, Don Williamson and Duane Haenfler.

Senior Pictures were taken by O'Neill Photo Co. on Sept. 30th. Football and cheerleader pictures were also taken.

October 1986

The first snowfall of the season didn't last long. About one inch fell but skies have been clear ever since.

Lawrence Raysby, longtime mail carrier, will retire October 17th.

Mr. and Mrs, Junior Schaefer were honored with an Open House for their 40th Anniversary at the Lutheran Church.

Senior Spotlight - Ronda Dykstra - loves a Mt. Dew with fries and a cheeseburger.

Avon won 36-0 over Geddes. The Pirates score 20 points in the last quarter.
