An informal memorial gathering was held for Lona Holzbauer, 82, of Wagner on Saturday, February 29 at the American Legion Hall in Wagner. Burial was in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, rural Wagner. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Lona M. Holzbauer was born July 2,1937 at Wagner, the daughter of Joseph F. And Dorothy M. (Dunsmore) Carda. She died Sunday, February 23, 2020 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Wagner.

Lona graduated from Wagner High School. She married Joe Holzbauer on September 17,1957 in Wagner. Four children were born to their union. Lona lived for many years on the farm and also worked as a bartender. She later met Tony Efta and they enjoyed many years together.

Lona was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She will be remembered for her love of collecting clowns, playing cards and bowling.

Thankful for having shared her life are her children: Cindy Andersh of Wagner, Mark Holzbauer of Yankton and Michelle (Doug) Olson of Yankton; 11 grandkids; seven great grandkids; partner Tony Efta of Wagner; sisters Connie Pesicka of Wagner, Darlene Busch of Hillsboro, OR; brothers Dean (Pat) Carda of Wagner and Eldon (Jerelynn) Carda of Sioux Falls; brother-in-law Bob Breen of Wagner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lona was preceded in death by her son Ron, parents, sister Carol Breen, and brothers-in-law, Tom Pesicka and Gene Busch.
