Graveside services for Larry Schacht, 89, of Pickstown will be held Friday, September 12 at 3 p.m. at the Lakeview Cemetery in Lake Andes, with military honors. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements. Born on February 22, 1936 in Rock Rapids IA, he carried the titles of son (in-law), brother (in-law), uncle, husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa and friend. Larry married his love of 63 years, Terry (Swanson) and raised four remarkable children, Heidi (Cimpl), Kirsten (Torres), Jill (Van Zee), and TJ. Larry served four years in the Navy and obtained a degree from South Dakota State University before embarking on his careers in soil conservation and banking. He was an active member of Shriner’s for over 20 years Larry built a life around his family and friends. He enjoyed hunting, golfing and fishing and always had a good story to share. He spent the majority of his career in the banking industry with a service mindset building lasting relationships with countless individuals and in constant service to the community. Antelope and deer hunts out west and New Year celebrations with a basement full of friends flood the memories. Countless golfing trips and the shared love of the sport with his son brought him great joy. Special travels with his daughter, time spent in Texas, and seeing the birth of great grandchildren along with hosting family gatherings at Christmas bring numerous cherished family memories. Larry’s legacy will be carried on by his unwavering support of and values he instilled in his family. He will be deeply missed.
Larry is survived by his spouse, Terry, children: Heidi (fiancé Craig and her children Megan (Alex), Taylor, and Alexa (Jordan)) of Wagner, Kirsten (spouse Rudy) of Bastrop TX, Jill (spouse Brian and children Breeley and Raelynn) of Waco TX and TJ (children Jacob and Avery) of Lake Andes along with great grandchildren Ian, Axel, Vera and Myra. He is also survived by his brother Ken (spouse Barb) of FL, and sister Sandy Swatek of Wagner along with several nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother Sue and father Bud and brothers Paul and Keith.
