Funeral services for Joyce O'Neal were Saturday, May 28 at the United Methodist Church in Wagner. Burial was in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Joyce Marie O’Neal was born January 1, 1927 at Wagner the daughter of Stephan and Pauleen (Brodsky) Thaler. She died Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell.

Joyce graduated from Wagner High School and earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Southern State Teacher’s College in Springfield. Joyce married John Buchholz on April 28, 1945 in Kansas. John died on September 1, 1949. She married F.F. O’Neal on August 10, 1954 in Lake Andes. F.F. died on May 30, 1972.

Joyce was an Elementary School Teacher who taught the first grade. She began her teaching career teaching country school on the river bottom south of Wagner. She was a teacher in Wagner, Mission and Mitchell during her career. She retired at the age of 65.

Joyce will be remembered for her love of bowling, softball, watching tv, fishing and dancing. Her greatest pleasures in life came from her children and family.

Thankful for having shared her life are her children: Paula (Pat) Doyle of Sidney, NE, Terry (Arlene) Buchholz) of Lynnwood, WA, Peggy Hauge of Mitchell, and Craig (Cheryl) O’Neal of Kendallville, IN; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by both husbands, sons: Steve O’Neal and John Buchholz; granddaughter, Danah Joyce O’Neal; parents; son-in-law, Jim Hauge; and brother Norman (Vivian) Thaler.
