Funeral Mass for John Peterson, 95, of Lake Andes was Thursday, February 21 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Lake Andes. Burial was in the Lakeview Cemetery in Lake Andes. Crosby-Jaeger Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

John S. Peterson was born June 19, 1923 on a farm south of Lake Andes, the son of Severen and Tillie (Giedd) Peterson. He died Friday, February 15, 2019 at the Avera St. Benedict Health Center in Parkston.

John married Carmen Bambas in Lake Andes. They lived on a farm north of Lake Andes until moving into Lake Andes in the early 1950’s. It was at this time John began working at the Ft. Randall Dam. He worked there for 18 years. John then worked various jobs and ended his career at the Charles Mix Courthouse in the maintenance department.

Carmen passed away July 17, 1982. John married Mary Eileen Minahan in 1983. She passed away July 18, 2013.

John was a handyman and enjoyed his retirement working on various projects. He loved music and belonged to the Tyndall Accordian Club and played the accordian with them for years. He also liked hunting pheasants.

Thankful for having shared his life are his daughter, Sharon (Larry) Johnson and his son, Randy Peterson both of Lake Andes; three granddaughters: Shelly (Jim) Whitaker of Omaha, NE, Sheila (Tom) Payer of Armour and Mari Johnson of Lake Andes; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his two wives, three sisters: Mae Engel, Delores Vellek, Christina Steffens and a brother, James Peterson.
