GLORIA JEAN REITER

Gloria Jean (Bearsheart) Reiter was born on September 3, 1949, in Mobridge to Lawrence and Ella Bearsheart. Gloria passed away suddenly Thursday, May 18, 2023, in her home. Services will be on Saturday, June 3, at 11 a.m. in Fort Yates, ND at the AJ Agard building with Father John Floberg officiating. Burial will be at St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery, Wakpala. Peters Funeral home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.

Gloria was raised in Mobridge and attended school in Mobridge, Springfield and Ft. Yates where she graduated in 1968. She met the love of her life, Bill Reiter, in Ft. Yates in 1968 and they married on October 25, 1969. They had three daughters from this union. They lived in Ft. Yates until 1973 when they moved to Bismarck, ND where at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Lake Andes on February 4, 1978.

they resided at United Tribes Technical College.

While living in Bismarck, Gloria was an avid bowler. She bowled on numerous teams and in numerous tournaments.

In 1980, Gloria and Bill moved back to Ft. Yates where they raised their three girls. As the girls got older, Gloria returned to school attending college at Sitting Bull College and receiving her bachelor’s degree in general education.

She started working for the I.H.S.

in Ft. Yates in 1996 in the Contract Health Department for 23 years when she finally retired.

Her other hobbies also include beading and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Bill and Gloria loved watching their grandchildren grow up and participate in sports and any and all other activities. She always had a smile for everyone.

During their marriage, Bill and Gloria were able to travel a bit.

They took two trips to Alaska, a trip to Europe, a trip to the Southwest and an East Coast bus tour. She always wanted to visit the Great Wall of China.

Later in life, Gloria found a love for Professional Bull Riding (PBR). She attended 24 of the last 25 World Finals in Las Vegas and one in Arlington TX. She attended many PBR events that were within special friendship with three of the gentlemen, Ryan Dirteater, Stetson Lawrence and Wylie Peterson.

Gloria is survived by her children, Tami (Mike) Platfers of Fargo, ND, Kathi (Goober) Reiter of Wagner and April Reiter of Ft. Pierre; six grandchildren: Kairi Platfers, Fargo, ND, Allan and Alex Reiter of Wagner and Karly Reiter, Talia, and Jonny Kuntz of Ft. Pierre; one brother, Bradford (Gaby) Bearsheart of Hawaii; and two sisters: Cosetta Bearsheart of St Cloud, MN, and Lorna Bearsheart of Glenham. She was blessed with many nieces and nephews. Gloria was called mom and Grandma by many kids, teens, and adults on the Standing Rock Reservation. Special friends are Elaine McLaughlin, Reva Gates and Maria Hagel.

Gloria was preceeded in death by her husband of 52 years, her parents, Lawrence, and Ella Bearsheart. Brothers Larry Paul Bearsheart and Wyatt Bearsheart and one sister, Janis Bearsheart; in-laws: William and Margaret Reiter, Edward Reiter, Lois (Sylvester) Winter, Judy (Llyod) Lovegren, Kathy (George) Taylor, Bobbie Reiter, and Joann Reiter; as well as numerous other family members.
