GERALD HARRINGTON

Private memorial services for Gerald Dean “Tub” Harrington, 90, of Wagner will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 6 at the United Methodist Church in Wagner. Masks are recommended for those in attendance. The service will be streamed on the Wagner United Methodist Church Facebook page. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.

Gerald Dean “Tub” Harrington was born August 3, 1930 in Wagner to Ida (Whetham) and Dave Harrington. He died Saturday, January 23, 2021 at his home in Wagner under hospice care.

Tub graduated from Wagner High and married his high school sweetheart Patricia L. “Pat” Strayer October, 20, 1949 at the Methodist Church in Wagner. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary shortly before she died January 1, 2016.

Tub’s many jobs included working on several farms and at Fort Randall Dam while it was under construction. He was a gravel truck driver, a gas station attendant and State Highway Department employee. He was one of the most successful managers in the history of Terminal Grain Elevator winning numerous awards. He and Pat farmed her grandfather’s land and owned and operated G&D Grocery in Wagner.

A member of the Wagner UMC for almost 80 years, he sat on several UMC Boards and attended church even during the Covid pandemic. He was a member and chairman of the Napa Platte Regional Rail Authority for 35 years and also served on the Wagner Volunteer Ambulance Board.

Tub will be remembered for his love of family and friends. He and Pat traveled extensively and almost always took two or three grandkids along. He was a great supporter of all his grand and great-grandkids and attended every possible sporting, school and church event. Tub enjoyed antiquing, raised pheasants, loved to hunt and hosted large gatherings each “opener”. He loved to bowl and was a fierce (cheating!!) card player.

Thankful for having shared his life are his daughter Deb (Larry) Cap of Mitchell, son Dave (Phyllis Myers) of Wagner and daughter-in-law Marlene Harrington of Wagner. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren and a great, great granddaughter. Amy (Cory) Bailey, Cade, Cooper (Sky) and Grace, Bonesteel; Devon (Ryan) Hinckley, Morgan, Cole, Ethan; Wendy (Bryan) Kayl, Landon, Crescent City, FL, Brandan, Sioux Falls; Paul (Rubylin) Harrington, Abigail and Annlin, Wagner; Laura Harrington, Seattle, WA; Nicky (Chris) Jacobs, Jackson and Jillian, Farmington, MN; Heather (Jared) Patrick, McKenzie, Makayla and Makenna, Jefferson, IA; Jessica (Brandon) Duong, Vanessa and Bryson, Jefferson, IA; Emily Rose Harrington, Lennox; sister-in-law Betty (LeRoy) Atkinson, Perham, MN; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends galore and special friend, Agnes Nedved.
