ERVIN E. PALMER

Ervin E. Palmer was born January 8, 1931, in Wessington Springs, to Elbert and Mary (Dey) Palmer. Ervin grew up on the farm with his brothers and sisters. He graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1949.

On November 13, 1950, Ervin was united in marriage to Ethelyn “Sallie” Kjeldseth. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Huron where Ervin worked at the Dailey Plainsman. In 1962, they purchased the Lake Andes Wave newspaper and worked together there until moving to Rapid City in 1976. There they worked together operating a bakery and later owned and operated Palmer Printing. They purchased a ranch near Whitewood, in 1986 which they operated with their son, Dan. In 2000, they retired and moved to Sturgis, and most winters were spent in Mesa, AZ.

Ervin was an avid bowler for many years and enjoyed gardening, woodworking and working with Dan on the ranch.

Ervin passed away on February 22, 2019, in Yankton at the age of 88 years.

Survivors include his son, Daniel (Heidi) of Sturgis; daughter, Lana Culver (Keith) of Newcastle, WY; grandson, Justin (Dawn) Machacek of Fort Worth, TX; and great-grandchildren, Austin Machacek of Newcastle, WY, and Makayla and Seth Machacek of Fort Worth, TX.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife of 67 years; an infant daughter; and his siblings, V.R., Harry, Archie, Roy, Ruth Sicilia, Pearl Hendrix, Dorothy Del Moro, Ralph and Les.
