DR. MORRIS RADACK

Dr. Morris Radack, age 88, of Yankton, died Thursday, October 19, 2023 at Avera Majestic Bluffs Hospice House in Yankton.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, October 24 at Calvary Baptist Church in Yankton with Pastor Errin Mulberry officiating. A private family burial will take place prior to the memorial service at the Baptist Cemetery in rural Avon. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Yankton.

Morris was born September 12, 1935 in Avon, to David and Lena (Giedd) Radack. He grew up on a farm near Avon and then moved into town when he was 12. Morris graduated from Avon High School in 1953 and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from South Dakota State University in Brookings in June 1957. Morris then decided medical school was a better option. He married Marcene Schultz in Avon on August 10, 1958. First, he attended the College of Medicine at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion for two years with a degree in Basic Sciences in June of 1960. He then graduated with his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Washington in Seattle on June 9, 1962. Morris completed his internship year at the University of Minnesota and was then drafted into the United States Navy where he served as a medical doctor in Concord, CA at the Naval Weapons Station. After two years in the Navy, Morris was honorably discharged and completed his Residency at the University of Minnesota. In 1966, he and his family moved to Yankton and he began his long career in Internal Medicine at the Yankton Medical Clinic, retiring in 1998. Throughout his career, Morris also served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Internal Medicine for medical students at USD.

Morris loved fishing, boating and especially bird hunting with his dogs. He was a strong supporter of numerous conservation organizations including Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. He was a Board member for the SD Parks and Wildlife Foundation for many years. He was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church where he took on several leadership roles. Morris loved traveling and taking family vacations. He led by example and taught his children many valuable lessons in life. Morris had a great sense of humor and loved to tell stories. He will be truly missed.

Morris is survived by his wife, Marcene Radack of Yankton; four children: Kimberly (Erik) Johnson of Avon, Deborah Sage of Yankton, Karen (Shawn) Harmon of Cedar Rapids, IA and David (Dawn) Radack of Robbins, IA; seven grandchildren: Matthew (Rachel) Johnson, Michael (Kiersten) Johnson, Karli Johnson, Heather (James) Henderson, Sheridan Harmon, Ryley and Lindsay Radack; five great grandchildren: Kaden and Braxton Sage, Kayzleigh, Jace and Caden Johnson.

Morris was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Joan Johnson: son-inlaw, Jody Sage; and grandson, Adam Sage.
