Funeral services for Donald Gene "Choppy" Patterson, Jr., were Thursday, November 2 at the YST South Community Center Gym. Burial was in the Holy Fellowship Episcopal Cemetery in Greenwood. Wake services were at the Community Center. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge or arrangements.
Donald Gene “Choppy” Patterson, Jr. was born August 10, 1975 in Wagner, the son of Dorothy Jane (Cooke) Patterson and Donald Gene Patterson, Sr. He died Thursday, October 26, 2023 at his home in Iron Lightning.
Donald had one sister Regina (deceased) and one brother Dougie (deceased). Donald attended Marty Indian School his whole life and graduated in 1993. He worked for the Yankton Sioux Tribe Food Distribution program for many years. He first started out working at Food Distribution in high school with the YST Summer Youth Program and then from 1993 to 2020. While he worked there he served various jobs like working in the Warehouse, Certification Clerk and Manager. Donald took pride in his job and loved tailgating, delivering food boxes to homes and checking on relatives and friends. Donald married Michele Chasing Hawk July 19, 2007. Their family had two sons: Sprit (deceased) and Christian Sierra; and two daughters: Anpetu and Hocokanwin.
Choppy is survived by his wife Michele, two daughters: Anpetu and Hocokanwin; son Christian; uncle Guy Cooke Sr.; grandbabies: Spirit Wind, Ty Shay, Wanbli Wazani, Tacea, Tyis, Tacien and Wakita Winyan; and many other relatives.
Choppy was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy, father Donald, sister Regina, brother Dougie, son Spirit, and many other relatives.
Choppy loved and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
