Dennis Sternhagen, 60, of Tyndall died Sunday, February 2, 2020 south of Tyndall, the result of an automobile accident. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m., Thursday, February 13, at the Trinity Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Avon.

Dennis P. Sternhagen was born March 9, 1959 at Tyndall, the son of Edward and Marjorie (Vavruska) Sternhagen.

Dennis graduated from Avon High School in 1977. He received his training to be a diesel mechanic at the college in Springfield. Dennis moved to Wayne, NE where he worked as a diesel mechanic. He later moved to Broken Bow, NE and retired from working at numerous John Deere dealerships after 27 years. Dennis moved back to South Dakota to help his parents. He worked at John Deere in Tyndall until they closed the shop after a fire. He then started working in Springfield at Vern Kaul’s for three years. Dennis worked at the Mike Durfee State Prison for 14 years. He also worked on tractors for friends and neighbors at his shop on the farm.

Dennis was an avid golfer and was a member of the Springfield Golf Club. He also enjoyed bowling at the Tyndall Lanes bowling alley. Dennis was highly respected and loved by his nieces and nephews.

Thankful for having shared his life are his mother Marjorie Sternhagen of Dante, brother Gary and wife Carla of Douglas, WY, twin brother Doug and wife Deb of Rapid City; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; many very close Nebraska and South Dakota friends; and his best friend, his dog Sambra.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father Edward.
