DELORES PETERS

Due to Covid-19 health concerns, private funeral services for Delores Peters, 89, of Wagner were held Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner with burial in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

Delores Arlene Peters, age 89, of Wagner, died peacefully at the Wagner Good Samaritan Center on Thursday, October 22, 2020, surrounded by family. She was born November 14, 1930 to Otto and Pearl (Uecker) Jerke at their home in rural Delmont. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Delores, the second of nine children, was invaluable to her family, not only in helping raise her siblings, but also with the outdoor duties of farm life. Delores attended country school through the 8th grade at Rouse District 74, rural Dante. After completion of her schooling, Delores did domestic work for neighbors and extended family.

After catching the eye of Willie Peters, and having many adventures through their courtship, they were united in marriage September 3, 1950 at Zion Lutheran Church in Avon. Three children were born to this union: David, Jackie and Alan.

During their married life, Delores and Willie moved to Wisconsin, Minnesota and then back to South Dakota in 1958 where they worked side-by-side on their dairy farm.

Delores always kept an immaculate lawn and garden and loved sharing her bountiful produce. She was the ultimate “Hostess with the Mostess”. There was always room in her inn for one more person. She will be remembered for her perfectly crisp refrigerator pickles and cream puff dessert.

Delores was noted for her speed walking at Wagner’s Annual Labor Day Walk. Legend has it, there are some competitors still spitting out her dust.

Delores was an active member of LWML at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wagner which she served in many capacities.

Delores will always be remembered for her faith in God and love for her family, including providing almost 20 years of Respite Care.

Thankful for sharing her life are her son Alan (Jolene) Peters of St. Cloud, MN, and daughter-in-law Donna Peters of Gillette, WY; grandchildren: David (Kim) Peters, Mark (Kathy) Peters, John Peters, Chandra (Dan) Donnell, Damian (Kerri) Peters, Cole (Kayla) Peters, Nicole (Craig) Reno, Robyn (Tyler) Lovera, Christopher (Jerica) Peters and Brianna Peters; 29 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brothers: Glen (Verna) Jerke and Gary (Susan) Jerke; sisters: Clarice (EJ) Burke, Lois (Ronnie) Willman, Wilma Estes and Donna (Ron) Bruna; and many other family and friends.

Delores was preceded in death by Willie in 1999; sons: David and Jackie; parents; brother Clifford; and sister Shirley.
