CHERYL NELSON

Cheryl Lynn Nelson, daughter of Robert and Muriel (Reines) Nelson was born in Mitchell December 8, 1954. She passed away November 14, 2023 at Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 68.

Cheryl attended college in Springfield obtaining her Administrative associates degree. After college she worked for the Department of Social Services and supervised a branch within the Army Corps of Engineers. After many years of being a supervisor, she changed careers and found her calling working at the Lake Andes Nursing Home for over 20 years. She took pride in her job duties and gained the respect of many families of loved ones she helped take care of. Cheryl touched many lives and formed special bonds with many of her co-workers.

Cheryl had two children Alicia and Robert; three granddaughters: Janai, Jacie and Jaeley; one great-granddaughter Zaiylah Noel; and her beloved significant other for almost 30 years Michael Zephier who all meant the world to her.

Cheryl loved to watch games shows, soap operas, and the old black and white TV shows. She enjoyed playing games on her phone and doing crossword puzzles. She loved to spoil Zaiylah and would often send Mike out shopping for gifts for her.

Cheryl was greeted into heaven by her parents Robert and Muriel; sister Connie Oliver; and many other family and friends.

She is survived by her significant other Michael; daughter Alicia ( Brian) Braun; son Robert Winckler; brother Robert (Barb) Nelson; sister Cindy Milacek; granddaughters: Janai, Jacie and Jaeley; one great-granddaughter Zaiylah Noel; along with extended family and friends that became part of her life.

A Celebration of Cheryl’s Life will be held at a later date. Peters Funeral Home of Wagner is in charge of arrangements.
