Carol Ferguson was born on September 5, 1935 in Tyndall, to Lawrence and Gladys (Ball) Kreber. She died Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Avera Sister James Care in Yankton.

Carol attended grade school at Highland and McCray country schools and high school in Tyndall. After graduating from high school, Carol attended one year of college for nursing.

Carol married Richard (Dick) Ferguson on July 16, 1956 in Lead. They moved back to the Kreber homestead in 1965. Carol and Richard were blessed with five children, whom Carol once stated were “the greatest gifts I ever received…”. Dick passed away in July of 2006.

Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a typical farm wife. She planted a garden and did the canning, raising chickens, walking bean fields and pastures, doing chores, making lunches for the guys and trying to make chokecherry jelly. In addition to the farm work, Carol also worked for thirty years and five months as a night CNA at St. Michael’s Hospital in Tyndall. It was a job she loved until retirement.

In her spare time, Carol enjoyed playing cards, sewing, making crafts and other hobbies. She loved autumn, Halloween, Christmas and all kinds of music. Carol had a great sense of humor. She loved snacks, ice cream and popcorn. She had a full and well lived life. She gave her time and talents to many. Most of all, Carol adored her grandchildren and her family meant a lot to her.

Grateful to have shared her life are Carol’s children: Rita (Greg) Gall of Lesterville, Thomas Ferguson of Sioux Falls, Sandy Easterling of Tyndall, and Cheryl Giedd (significant friend Keith) of Wagner; grandchildren: Darren Ferguson, Kori DeJong, Maggie Kohles, Kyle Gall, Danelle Meyers, Ashley Ludens, Tristan Easterling, Nicole Giedd and Stacey Giedd; and great-grandchildren: Emilee, Daron, Jovohn, Avaya, Mason, Avery, Lilly, Kinsley and Ryken.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; son Michael Ferguson; daughter-in-law Josette Ferguson; grandchildren Brooke and Dana Gall; brothers: Larry Kreber, Jim Kreber, Jack Kreber and Jerry Kreber; and sisters: Winifred Peterson, Jeanne Wortmann and Shirley Frei.
