ALVIN BURFEINDT

Funeral services for Alvin Burfeindt were held on Saturday, October 13, at St. John Lutheran Church in Tyndall with Rev. Dean Schroeder officiating. Burial with military honors followed at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Avon.

Alvin Henry Burfeindt was born on March 2, 1935 to Henry and Meta (Hoft) Burfeindt in Avon. He attended Zion Lutheran Parochial School in Avon through the 8th grade and went on to Avon High School. At age 17, Alvin went to work construction at the Fort Randall Dam in Pickstown, working primarily on the spillway concrete.

On August 29, 1954, he was united in marriage to Margaret Carda at Zion Lutheran Church, Avon. Together they made their home on the family farm for two years until drought forced them to seek work in California. For a time, he worked for Rhor Aircraft before they returned to South Dakota to continue farming. Alvin then joined the Springfield National Guard and was stationed in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. Upon returning home, he continued serving with the National Guard as well as working as a Federal Crop Insurance adjustor, school board member, and feed and seed dealer. After semi-retirement, he enjoyed coffee with friends at Avon Farmers Co-op and Mark’s Machinery in Wagner.

Alvin passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 in Tyndall, having attained the age of 83 years.

He is survived and remembered by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Burfeindt of Avon; daughter Sandra (Murlen) Van Duysen of Wagner; grandchildren: Travis (Sara) Van Duysen and their children: Taylor, Dodge, and Caden of Wagner and Tyler (Sereana) Van Duysen and their children: Remington, Oakleigh, and Stetson of Wagner; special niece and nephew Charlotte (Rick) Schmid and Arlan Reimnitz.

He was preceded in death by infant son Bruce, infant daughter Sharon, his parents, sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth (Gary) Reimnitz; and special nephew Larry Reimnitz.
