Skin is the largest organ in the human body, but it’s easy to take it for granted. Unless we notice pain or itching or funny spots, most people don’t give it much thought.
Read moreSome time ago a former Mitchell Daily Republic editor asked me if I’d like to see my column syndicated, and I told him that syndication would be ok by me. He failed in his attempt to syndicate the column, and I suspect that the failure related to my column being too local and not regional enough. It lacked relevance to readers as far south as Omaha and as far north as the twin cities. I wasn’t too disappointed as I was more interested in keeping a personal relationship with my local readers.
Read moreThere’s nothing like a few solid hours of drive time through some wide-open country with a big, beautiful sky filling your windshield to set your life in perspective. I recently had the opportunity to spend a few days on the road—just me, my dog, Frankie, and Spotify over the Bluetooth in the car. It was glorious.
Read morePost-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, was first listed as a medical diagnosis in 1980. However, it has been recognized and called by many different names throughout history. However, there is something to say about the breadth of knowledge that a family medicine physician is expected to have. Your family doctor can run through the alphabet of conditions from acne to the zika virus.

One can either troll or toss minnow-tipped jigs, but either way, move or retrieve slowly and quietly. I like fourpound test monofilament line and eighth-ounce jigs. I also like chartreuse in color. They won’t be as aggressive as post-spawn walleyes, but you have a greater chance of nailing a big one. Please put the egg-laden fish back in the river.
