Many of us as kids had dreams of what we wanted to do when we grew up. At a very young age Wayne Scherr had dreams of having a horse in the Kentucky Derby and that dream is becoming reality on September 5th as a horse he co-owns with Raymond Daniels, Necker Island, a 3-year old colt, is set to compete in the 2020 Kentucky Derby. This is the first race horse with a South Dakota or North Dakota owner that has ever competed in this event.

With the extreme heat we were experiencing last week these volunteers didn't hesitate when the whistle blew to put on all their protective gear and jump in the trucks to battle the flames. Pictured above, Wagner Fire Department was out battling two fires last week in over 100 degree weather. Many retired firemen even grabbed some gear and headed out to assist when the need arose. Tenth grader, Isabella Brouwer placed third in the Girls Varsity 4000 Meter race with at time of 16:44 and Sonya Hansum was 31st at 20:28. In the Boy’s Varsity, Peter Backes was 39th with a time of 17:22 and Tony Hansum was 49th in 17:46.
