Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish Dante and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Wagner held their joint summer religious education program Lumen Christi--Light of Christ June 24th - 28th, 2022 for grade school students. An evening session was held for the junior high and high school students. The parishes enjoyed a potluck and family night on Wednesday and the kids enjoyed the water fight fun on Thursday. Back when I last fished Saskatchewan’s Lake Besnard in the mid-nineties, the plentiful walleyes ran about 15 inches in length with a 17 inch fish being exceptional. This year our Kisch family group netted two fish over 25 inches with numerous fish running over 23 inches. How does one explain this?

Summertime. For most, this signals thoughts of warm weather and good times with family and friends. Sadly, what brings happiness for some can trigger stress and sorrow for others. In the words of a Vietnam War veteran, “The fourth of July was once my favorite holiday with friends and family…but now it is a day I wish never existed.”

Wagner Speedway Promoter, Reese Powers commented on the Speedway action saying, "the racing season has been great so far! We have had a few nights where we needed to cancel due to weather but other than that all has been good! We spent a lot of time during the offseason with dirt work on the track and making upgrades to the facility all around. We have also brought in the G.O.T.R.A. and W.I.N series this season and they both put on spectacular shows for our fans. We will also have the Tri-State Late models come on August 5th. We show our regular classes every Friday night and they have had some tough competition throughout. Most nights it’s come down to a last lap battle for the feature wins. We are thankful for the talented men and women who bring their cars to put on and show and extremely grateful for the community’s support that they bring to us."
