The Wagner American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) in conjunction with the Wagner American Legion and Sons of the American Legion hosted the Fall District 8 meeting on October 27th. The day started out with a social hour for all attendees to mingle, conversate and get caught up about differing events and activities that various units were undertaking. It was followed by a lunch of tavern, hot dogs and a plethora of homemade salads and desserts provided by Wagner ALA members.
Read moreOne of the oldest established churches in Charles-Mix County is the Greenwood Presbyterian Church. The town, now village of Greenwood, had opened a post office in 1859 with 1859 being the only date on record of the beginning of the town of Greenwood. The post-office remained in operation until 1965. The town’s name of Greenwood actually comes from the naming of the post-office itself, which was called Greenwood because of a grove of trees that was near the original town site.

Read morePete Kazena is being honored as Wagner’s November Veteran of the Month. Kazena enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on August 26th of 1976 and after serving for three years was honorably discharged from service on August 29th of 1979. After enlisting in the Marines, Kazena was given a choice between three Marine Corps Recruit Depots (MCRD) to attend his basic training. His three choices were Parris Island, San Diego and Camp Lejeune. Kazena chose MCRD San Diego. After completing his basic training, Kazena was then sent to Camp Pendleton in CA for four weeks for Infantry Training School as his Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) was 0311 Infantry. He had originally put in to be a truck driver, but the Marine Corps picked Kazena’s MOS for him and he was randomly selected him for infantry. As part of his training, he was trained for combat duty.
Read moreMission #22, the Clifford & LaVonne Graese Foundation Mission of the Midwest Honor Flight, departed from the Sioux Falls Regional Airport on October 8th filled with 85 Veterans, their guardians and the Midwest Honor Flight staff. On board of the Mission #22 flight was Wagner’s own Dennis Clemens. Dennis was accompanied by his son, Shane, as his guardian.
