Lake Andes will be hosting the Annual Fish Day Celebration. The celebration will begin Friday, June 2 with the Miss Fish Day Queen Pageant and the Little Miss Fishy Pageant. The pageant will be held at the Andes Central High School Gym at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2. This year the Miss Fish Day Pageant will be host to four contestants. The contestants are: Aubrey Gray, Aubrey is the daughter of Rob and Nicki Gray. Aubrey will be a Senior at Andes Central High School. Aubrey is being sponsored by Gray Wolf Construction.

Read moreAmerican Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on May 18, 2023 with 28 members in attendance. Americanism Officer Don Kotab also introduced our four scholarship winners who are: Teddie Slaba, Matt Link, Ava Podzimek and Jaycee Dvorak. Each winner individually thanked the members and informed us of their future plans. Also in attendance were Mike Kirwan and his daughter. Mike graciously donated a very sizeable amount to the Post from Mike and Willa honoring their son, Mickey Kirwan, who had passed away from war wounds. Karen Richelieu, the District 8 Auxiliary president, was also in attendance. Commander Clayton Rados thanked the cooks for the delicious meal. Chaplain Don Kotab gave the invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados then called the meeting to order.

Read moreWork continues on the bridge replacement project for the US 18 bridge over a stream into St. Francis Bay. The bridge is being replaced due to being at the end of its expected lifespan and increased maintenance costs. There will be grading work at this location to improve safety and meet current roadway standards. Additionally, there will be intersection modifications at the US 18 and SD 50 junction in Lake Andes. By squaring up this intersection, it will make it easier to see oncoming traffic and improve safety.

The schedule for the summer includes 3 (yes 3) presentations at the library open to everyone. June 16 th at 1:15 pm the library will be hosting Gypsy Cowbelle and Home Spun Instruments which is provided through a grant from the SD Humanities Council. Come ready to tap your toes and clap your hands! On June 28th at 10 am a Magician Jeff Quinn will be performing at the library. What do rabbits, black hats and wands have in common? A magic show open to every age. Finally, do you like reptiles? On August 2nd at 10 am the Reptile Lady will be visiting the Lake Andes Library with her pets to do a presentation for anyone interested in learning more about reptiles.
