That’s right, the funniest guy in rodeo, we affec-tionately call “Rump”, is coming back to entertain crowds at all three performances of the rip roarin’ bronc stompin’ Burke Stampede Rodeo.
Read moreThe City of Wagner held a special council meeting on Tuesday, June 25th at 5:30 p.m. As one walked into the meeting as either a participant or simply an attendee, he or she must sign in and then are given the option if they would like to speak to be put on the list for the public comment part of the meeting. Looking around the room before the meeting started every chair was taken and it was standing room only. The meeting began by being called to order by Mayor, Tammy Thornton, followed by those in attendance being told that this city council meeting was being videotaped. Then everyone in the room stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance in unison, before being seated. Mayor Thornton then proceeded to ask the city council if there was anyone who had a conflict of interest with anything on the day’s agenda. With no one having a conflict, she then asked for a motion to approve the agenda for the current meeting. After being unanimously approved by those on the board in attendance, the mayor then opened the floor for public comment.

Read moreA special session of the city council was not called to hear a repeal of the ETJ but rather a special session was called to hear nominations for a new council member along with other items of business. On the agenda at the special meeting was Gerrit Juffer asking to repeal the ETJ. This request to be on the agenda was made at a prior council meeting.

Read moreAt the American Legion monthly meeting held Thursday, June 20th, several students from the Wagner Community School were invited to give short presentations after the dinner. Frank Soukup and Carter Smejkal were asked to speak on their experiences at Boys State. Both students said that they really enjoyed their time at Boys State and made some really good friends while being a part of the experience. Carter and Frank said that they would definitely recommend Boys State to the incoming juniors. Daniel Soukup as one of the American Legion scholarship winners was also invited to the dinner before the meeting. Daniel thanked the American Legion for awarding him one of their scholarships and spoke about how he was going to be attending Mitchell Tech this fall where he will receive his associate’s degree as an electrician.
