10 YEARS AGO

Students in various grade levels at Wagner Community School participated in the 10th annual Read for the Record event. Altogether, 340 people read the selected book for the year at school.

Weber Red Angus of Wagner’s Mr. Odyssey 4168 was named the 2015 South Dakota State Fair Grand Champion Red Angus Bull.

Two runners for the Marty XC team qualified for the State XC Meet in Sioux Falls. Senior Oscar Bernie and 8th grader Kini Po Hart were the two state meet entries.

The WCs students that participated in the All State Chorus Concert in Rapid City were Chloe Noteboom, Kelsey Barnett, Carolyn Blaha, Sadie Eitemiller, Joanna Soukup, Sierra Juffer, Nathan Kucera, and Tyler Wilson. The WCS Vocal Director, Austin Genzlinger, accompanied them as well.

The Wagner volleyball team traveled to Burke and closed out their last regular season match of 2015 with a win.

2005

First Quarter “A” Honor Roll for the 5th grade at Marty Indian School were Jordan Drapeau, Alicia Eddy and Alexander Zephier.

Wagner Chamber of Commerce held a Pumpkin Contest resulting in Jean and Alan Pirner winning best design of their pumpkin and John and Paula Tuttle winning scariest design.

30 YEARS AGO

1995

Kenny Cooke and Jamie Schunk were crowned Homecoming Royalty at Marty Indian School.

Gene Dressler shot a 6x6 bull elk in the Northern Hills near Spearfish.

45 YEARS AGO

1980

Kevin Carl entered Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.

Major Richard D. Gross assumed command of the 137th Engr. Bn. succeeding Lieutenant Colonel Donald D. Owens.

60 YEARS AGO

1965

Alan Johnson is serving board the aircraft carrier, “Hornet.”

Cub Scouts Larry Hoffman and Steve Kocer were presented Boy Scout knives and Daniel Orton and Jim Jaeger received silver arrows.

92 YEARS AGO

1933

About fifteen of the Wagner vicinity went to Ravinia to pick corn for Ed Denker who had surgery at the Duggen Hospital.

Helen Herman and Frank Schneider were married.
