WAGNER SPEEDWAY SANCTIONED BY IMCA

Rod Pattison

The ownership and management of Wagner Speedway is proud to announce some big news for the racing community in our region and reveal the 2021 race schedule.

Following a season of hard work, planning and discussion, Wagner Speedway is thrilled to be sanctioned by the International Motor Contest Association (IMCA) for the upcoming campaign. IMCA is America's premier dirt track racing sanctioning body, home of the Speedway Motors Weekly Racing Series.

Since exploding onto the racing scene in 1979, the Modifieds have become the calling card of IMCA. These open wheel wonders push the limits of power and excitement. The IMCA Modified was the savior of modern racing, and IMCA has received many awards for its visionary efforts.

IMCA has incorporated that same philosophy in the growth of the seven other divisions it sanctions, five of which will be on display weekly at Wagner. Classes that will run for IMCA points in 2021 include Racesaver Sprint Cars, Stock Cars, Northern Sport Mods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts. Many of the drivers that our fans enjoyed watching last year will now have new teams join them on Friday nights for sanctioning points. Wagner will also continue to run the late model division as a non-sanctioned class but will be making some subtle changes to the rules, which will be announced soon.

IMCA continues its philosophy and focus on family, teamwork and a strong sense of integrity. They remain committed to their mission statement developed in 1992.

IMCA now holds sanctioned events in 36 states and one Canadian province and awards $650,000 in point fund monies to their drivers.

In past seasons, race teams came to Wagner because of the love of the track and a chance to earn track points for a track championship. Now, with IMCA sanctioning, the stakes just got a lot higher. Teams have the chance to earn either national points, state points or rookie of the year points, depending on what their particular focus is.

Speedway General Manager Rod Pattison is EXTREMELY excited for the future. “This sets up our track as a key for drivers across the region. Drivers can race for national points at any track, including ours. But they can also race for state champion points with us on Friday, I-90 Speedway for Racesaver sprint cars on Saturdays and Huset’s Speedway on Sundays. The rest of the IMCA classes have the chance to run for state title points at Park Jefferson International Speedway on Saturdays and Raceway Park on Sundays. For our drivers from Nebraska, they can garner national points with Wagner on Friday, Off Road Speedway in Norfolk, NE on Saturdays and Stuart Raceway in Stuart, NE on Sundays, along with many other raceways across the country. It’s a win-win and we are extremely excited!”

After a successful 2020 season, Wagner Speedway officials are pleased to announce the tentative schedule for 2021. The speedway is scheduled to host up to 17 nights of racing with a variety of special events along the way.

Racing will take place every Friday night, beginning May 7th and concluding on Labor Day weekend. As of now, Friday, July 16th is a scheduled night off, which may become a rain date if necessary.

Along with the Speedway Motors IMCA Weekly Racing Series, Wagner Speedway is pleased to be working with some of the top organizations in the region. The Property Solutions of America MSTS 360 sprint cars will return for one night only on Friday, June 25th, with Jody Rosenboom as the defending winner. This will be a two-night swing with Wagner on Friday and Off-Road Speedway on Saturday, June 26th.

The RepairableVehicles.com Tri-State Late Model Series will be in for one night only on Friday, July 30th. Justin Boomsma and Gary Brown, Jr were victorious in 2020 during the two-night Independence Day weekend show. The series continues to grow at a rapid pace and Wagner Speedway is proud to host this event in late July.

The T & R Contracting Late Model Street Stock series will return for one night only on Friday, June 11th. Some of the best side by side racing of the season was provided by the LMSS, with Billy Prouty picking up an exciting win with a late race move.

The Good Old Time Racing Association (GOTRA) will make two appearances in 2021. Friday, May 28th on Memorial Day weekend will bring back many memories of racing's glory days with restored and vintage cars you must see to believe and drivers that come to win. They will make their second stop on Friday, July 2nd.

The 2021 Season Championships will be held on Friday, August 27th and will conclude on Labor Day weekend Monday, September 6th with an Enduro Race. More information on these events will be coming soon.

We also will be having a live “Question and Answer” session on Facebook Live, which will have questions e-mailed to our panel of co-owner Kyle Moos, our new Technician Director Kip DeGroot and myself. Details on that Q & A will be coming in the next few weeks.

Keep watching our Facebook page at Wagner Speedway and our website at wagnerspeedway.com for further updates.

We are truly looking forward to a GREAT 2021 at Wagner Speedway. We hope you can join us.
