WAGNER ORAL INTERP HOLDS DISTRICTS

By
Mieke Slaba

It was a tight competition as The Wagner Raiders Oral Interp students took on districts Monday, October 29th. The Wagner Districts is limited to only the Wagner Oral Interp Students. They had to compete against each other for a slot in the region tournament. Each student receiving first in their category would be moving onto The Region 2A Contest held on November 12th at Cedar Shores in Oakoma.

The night started with the Serious pieces and the Duets. In Serious, placing 3rd was Olivia Breen, 2nd was Kallen Kafka, and 1st place went to Maggie Barnett. In Duets, placing 3rd was Alicia Applegate and Skyler Kourt, in 2nd was Ciara Nelson and Michaela Kokes, walking away with first was the duet of Michelle Soukup and Kallen Kafka. In Humorous, Tex Landeaux placed 2nd, and Grant Namminga took home 1st Place. In Poetry, moving onto Regions and taking 1st place is Maggie Barnett. In Non-Original Oratory, placing 2nd was Ciara Nelson, and placing 1st was Jessica Kocer. Taking first place in Storytelling is Olivia Breen. In the category of Reader’s Theater placing 2nd was the group of Alicia Applegate, Corbin Weber, and Skyler Court, and placing first was the Reader’s Theater of Kallen Kafka, Michaela Kokes, Rose Eitemiller, Michelle Soukup, Mackenzie Roberts, and Ciara Nelson.

Concluding the evening were the team awards/plaques. The “Integrity Award” and 4-year pin went to Maggie Barnett. Maggie has been an awesome example to the activity of Oral Interp. She really shows the younger students the way to work and become the best interper possible. She is always willing to put in the extra time. She has been an active participant her entire High School Career. Receiving “Most Dedicated” was Kallen Kafka. Kallen is a very, very hard worker when it comes to Oral Interp. He is constantly going above and beyond in getting his practices in and helping his partners to be the best they can be. It is very obvious that he is dedicated to this activity. Grant Namminga received “Most Improved.” Grant started the season not really sure what category to be in but, he took a chance in taking on a very challenging piece in the Humor category. At every practice and meet, Grant only became better. This was evident with his amazing performance on Tuesday night. The “Most Valuable” went to Olivia Breen. Olivia was awarded this for her attitude of wanting to help out the team, no matter what.

It was a very successful night for Wagner Oral Interp. We look forward to going onto regions and taking on the challenge of pushing to make it to state.
