WAGNER MEAT LOCKER DEMOLISHED

By

A building that has been a part of the Wagner main street since at least 1935, began demolition Friday, December 8th. The old meat locker was completely torn down and debris was removed that day and over the weekend. Current owners, Joey and Brenda Jaton, needed to safely bring down the building before the roof completely caved in. Last winter was particularly hard on the building’s roof and had started the cave-in. They currently have no plans for the lot, but would love to see it hold a new business or to see someone interested in using the space to enhance Wagner.

According to past title deeds, the building was first owned by Joseph and Lucy Krsnak in 1935. That same year it changed hands to Howard Lowell and Ethel Crabb. They built the locker and created Crabb’s Frosty Locker. The family owned and operated the locker until 1982, when the Crabb estate sold the property to James and Patricia Anderson. In 1985, ownership switched hands again to Mark and Marla Yost. Francis Doom bought the locker from the Yost’s in the late 90s and it continued to be utilized as a locker that was ran by Mike and Dawn Waters until it closed permanently in 2012. In 2017, the current owners, Joey and Brenda Jaton, bought the property from Doom.

Before the building was deemed unsafe, the Wagner Pool Fundraising committee was able to sponsor two haunted house fundraisers in the building in 2020 and 2021.
