On Thursday, May 12, Wagner traveled to Parkston to take part in the Buck Timmins Relays.

For the girls, Alcista Dion would capture two first place finishes as she won the pole vault with a mark of 8’0”. She also would clock a 12.54 in the 100 meter dash that would not only capture first place at the meet but also set a new Wagner record, breaking the 24 year old record held by Suzie Sully, who ran it 12.57 in 1998. I would imagine there are not many girls who hold their school’s 100 and 3200 meter records, but Alcista accomplished that feat with her sprint on Thursday. Congratulations!

Ashlyn Koupal would capture first place with a high jump of 5’4” while Elizabeth Woods claimed the 100 hurdle title finishing with a time of 16.34.

High Jump: Kya Kjeldgaard- 4’11” (2nd), Shona Kocer- 4’3” (T5)

100 Dash: Shalayne Nagel- 12.94 (2nd)

4x200 Relay: Sabrina Kreber, Jessica Kocer, Kathryn Doom, Hazel Jensen- 2:24.74 (6th)

1600 Run: Presley Slaba- 7:02.54 (6th)

4x100 Relay: Madi Knebel, Sabrina Kreber, Kathryn Doom, Hazel Jensen- 1:01.24 (5th)

300 Hurdles: Lydia Yost- 59.14 (2nd)

3200 Run: Presley Slaba- 15.48.44 (2nd)

For the boys, Jhett Breen would be champion of the 300 Hurdles as he ran a time of 44.74 finishing into a strong wind. Jhett would also be part of the winning 4x100 relay team which also consisted of the middle school trio of Gannon Knebel, Javian Pesicka, and Brayden Kreber as they would run it with a time of 48.44.

Toby Zephier would claim both the 200 and 400 dashes with times of 25.84 and 56.44.

The 4x800 relay team of Glen Cournoyer, Henry Hayward, Lael Young, and Riley Roberts would win with a time of 9.28.44.

110 Hurdles: Jackson Rolston- 17.84 (3rd)

100 Dash: Matt Link- 11.44 (2nd), Gannon Knebel- 12.44 (5th), Owen Bekanich- 12.44 (6th)

4x200 Relay: Kahle Hill, Ted Slaba, Gabe Houseman, Treyson Zephier- 1:50.44 (2nd)

On Thursday, May 19, Wagner hosted the Region 5A Track and Field Meet. This meet consisted of seven teams. Andes Central/ Dakota Christian, Bon Homme, Ethan-Parkston, Hanson, Mt. Vernon-Plankinton, Sanborn Central-Woonsocket, and Wagner.

Three different girls would a region title in their individual event. Alcista Dion was champion of the pole vault as she reached a height of nine feet. Ashlyn Koupal won the high jump by clearing five feet and four inches. Elizabeth Woods won the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 16.44.

4x100 Relay: Elizabeth Woods, Shalayne Nagel, Eve Zephier, Alcista Dion- 52.93 (3rd)

300 Hurdles: Elizabeth Woods- 53.40 (4th)

200 Dash: Shalayne Nagel- 27.04 (2nd)

The boys would claim two titles on the day. The boys 4x800 relay consisting of Glen Cournoyer, Henry Hayward, Lael Young, and Riley Roberts ran a time of 8:49.16 to capture the title. Jhett Breen continues to improve on those 300 hurdles as he ran a time of 42.60 to claim the gold medal.

Wagner has qualified 14 athletes for the state track and field meet in Sioux Falls this coming week, May 26-28, at Howard Wood Field. Those making it to the state meet are those entered in the top 24 statewide in class A. Wagner’s qualifiers along with their seed and best time/height/distance are:
