THURY LEADS PIRATES TO HOME VICTORY

The Avon Lady Pirates split a pair of games last week, picking up a home victory over Irene/ Wakonda before suffering a road loss at Wagner. On December 30, the Lady Pirates hosted Irene/Wakonda and earned a 51–42 win to even their record at 2–2. Rilyn Thury led Avon with a strong allaround performance, pouring in 22 points while adding 5 assists and 6 steals. Brielle Voigt contributed 11 points, while Jordyn Voigt led the rebounding effort with 6 boards and Brielle Voigt added 5. Avon shot well from the field, connecting on 15 of 33 attempts for 45 percent. The Lady Pirates were 3 of 13 from three-point range and finished 12 of 20 on two-point shots for 60 percent. From the free-throw line, Avon went 18 of 27 for 67 percent. The Lady Pirates committed 19 turnovers in the win. Avon was back on the road January 3, traveling to Wagner where they suffered a tough 44–62 loss. Once again, Thury led the scoring with 22 points, while Brielle Voigt added 12. Thury pulled down 6 rebounds, with Voigt collecting 5. Brielle Voigt also had a solid defensive night, recording 4 assists and 4 steals. As a team, Avon shot 39 percent from the field, sinking 17 of 44 shots. The Lady Pirates were 6 of 15 from beyond the arc for 40 percent, 11 of 29 on two-point attempts, and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line for 80 percent. Avon committed 10 turnovers in the road loss. The Lady Pirates will hit the road Tuesday evening, January 6, as they take on AlcesterHudson.
