The Junior World Finals will host more than 800 contestants during the ten-day event at the Wrangler Rodeo Arena with each contestant competing at the Las Vegas Convention Center. These young athletes will be competing for more than one million dollars in combined prize money and to be awarded the coveted Montana Silversmiths championship buckle.
This is Talsma’s first year qualifying for the Junior World Finals. Steer wrestling has been a passion and a part of Terran’s life since he was little. He competed in the event as a young kid and throughout his high school rodeo career in both the 4H State Rodeos and the South Dakota State Rodeos. Terran got his start in steer wrestling with his dad at a very young age. Terran’s dad, Ty, was a steer wrestler and Terran wanted to follow in his footsteps. Terran’s favorite aspects of steer wrestling are the adrenaline rush and winning. His personal best time in steer wrestling is 4.4 seconds.
After finding out that he had qualified for the Junior World Finals, Terran was super excited. He is most looking forward to being able to compete in Las Vegas with others his age from all over the world and at having a chance to win a good amount of prize money. Talsma’s goal while competing in Las Vegas is to win. He wants to bring back the prize money and Montana Silversmith championship buckle back to Avon with him.
Terran’s rodeo role model would be his dad, Ty. He is inspired by wanting to keep the Talsma name respectable and competitive in the rodeo arena. Terran participates in other rodeo events as well. He competes in calf roping and team roping. He has been very successful in rodeoing and is a 2-time South Dakota State 4H Champion Steer Wrestler, A National High School Rodeo Qualifier in Steer Wrestling and a High School Rodeo Reserve State Champion Steer Wrestler.
Congratulations Terran on qualifying for Junior World Finals in steer wrestling. We cannot wait to watch and follow your progress. Best of luck to you in the Junior World Finals. All of Avon will be cheering you on and you have made the community very proud.
