ON TO STATE WITH WAGNER ORAL INTERP

By
: Coach Mieke Slaba

It has been a crazy-busy year with lots of practices and lots of recordings. But, all of these practices and recordings have finally come to fruition. Many members of the Wagner Oral Interp Team are advancing to the 2020 Oral Interp State Festival. The State Festival is the end goal for all of the Oral Interp Students and for many, after the region contest, the state festival is finally a reality.

Wagner students advancing to the State Oral Interp Festival are:

Michelle Soukup -Non-Original Oratory "The Mindless Menace of Violence in America" By: Robert Kennedy

Kallen Kafka - Serious "Hit and Run": By: Lurlene McDaniel

Jackson Rolston - Humor "Jogging with My Wife" By: Bradley Walton

Jennifer Barnett - Poetry -A Collection of Poems based on Love

Mackenzie Roberts - Storytelling -The story of the villain in Rapunzel

It is crazy to see this Oral Interp year come to a close but, it couldn't have been a better year or a better region performance for these kids. Not only did many of them advance to state but also, the Wagner Oral Interp Team took home the Region 2A Trophy with the highest composite scores overall.

The State Festival looks very different this year because of COVID. The students will not actually be attending state at the original destination in Watertown. Instead, the coaches will record the students' performances and then send those performances to the state judges for their review. There will be a total of three judges for each performance/category. If the student's performance has an overall rating of Superior then, they medal which distinguishes a top placing in their category.

We wish the Wagner Oral Interp Team the best of luck at State!
