The October 29, 2025, Rotary meeting was brought to order by Rotarian Rachel Woods who played many roles for the meeting— President, Song Leader and Program Chairperson. We were once again fortunate to have four Senior girls from the Wagner Community School attending. Brooklin Nielsen whose parents are Jessica Davis and Greg Nielsen. She plans to attend Southeast Technical college in Mitchell after graduation and study for Dental Assistant. Shana Lensing’s parents are Ron and Trish Lensing, and she plans to do something with the horse industry. Adison Cuka’s parents are Tyler and Larissa Cuka, and she would like to attend SDSU for Pre Vet. Kyliana Lovell’s parents are Guy Lovell and Fury Rouse, and she plans to help at home and with other enterprises in which she is already interested.
Rotarians recited the Rotary Grace followed by Rachel Woods leading the membership in all four verses of “If You Are Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands, Stomp your Feet, Shout Rotary etc. Membership Minute Patty Frei informed the club that our Pints for Polio was a great success. There was a nice crowd, and all our “Rotary Baskets for Polio” were sold which amounted to a nice donation to the Rotary drive for eradicating polio. This program (Polio Plus) was created in 1985 and expanded in 1988 to launch the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Polio was endemic in 1255 countries in 1988 but is down to two countries now. The global effort to eradicate polio has prevented an estimated ten million cases of paralysis. A big Thank You is extended to everyone who joined the Wagner Rotary members at Choteau Creek Brewery on World Polio Day, October 24, 2025. There was over $1,000 raised that will be matched 2 to 1 by the Gates Foundation.
Sergeant at Arms Gerrit Juffer fined Jordan Weber and Tim Thaler $1 each for having football book winners last week; $1 to Jeff Doom who was heard saying that his wife is driving an old car (but she is a great gal!); $2 to Jordan Weber for being in a full page ad in the Wagner Post; $2 in a Happy Fine came from Gerrit for watching Jeff Doom driving his payloader and do a nice job on his driveway; $2 from Josh Christensen and $1 from Margaret Doom who was happy the Wagner Good Samaritan Home will be reopeneing after three years.
Members held their breath while Jeff Doom tried to find the Queen of Hearts in the eight cards that are left in the deck, but he only picked a four of Diamonds. There is now $702.00 in the drawing!
Patty Frei substituted for Secretary/Treasurer Craig Krsnak and said she hoped she got the numbers right as Craig was texting her all morning with updates on makeups. There were four misses on the Woods team and ten misses on the Christensen team. There were several absences at the meeting today so the team totals will be changing by next week.
Rotarian Rachel Woods chose a timely topic for her program. She showed two segments from You Tube on the polio epidemic that began in 1950 in the United States. The first one showed a typical small town in the South that had an unusually high number of polio cases. It also showed the aftereffects of living with the aftermath of contracting the disease. The second presentation was about a man who got polio when he was young and spent the rest of his life in an “iron lung” which was interesting for the WCS students and other Rotarians who were not old enough to remember this crisis. Most people are vaccinated in childhood for the prevention of polio which is only one of the reasons why children should always get their shots before attending school. If you are interested in learning more about polio and what happened in the United States be sure to search for polio programs on You Tube.
The membership adjourned with the recitation of The Four Way Test: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL AND BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
