The Avon Pirates battled through three overtimes to earn a hard-fought 74-69 victory over Hanson in an exciting boys basketball matchup.

Al’Shamon Gunter and Zander Fathke each poured in 21 points to lead the Pirates, while Cale Cooper added 13 points and Dominic Doom chipped in eight. Avon controlled the glass throughout the night behind a dominant effort from Gunter, who pulled down 21 rebounds. Cooper added six rebounds and Fathke finished with five.

Ball movement and defense played key roles in the win, as Grayson Ratzlaff and Fathke each recorded four assists. Fathke was also active defensively with five steals, while Cooper added two steals to help Avon force turnovers in key moments.

The Pirates shot 40 percent from the field, connecting on 28 of 70 attempts. Avon finished 24 of 53 from two-point range and went 4 of 17 from beyond the arc. At the free-throw line, the Pirates were solid, hitting 14 of 21 attempts for 67 percent. Avon committed 16 turnovers in the triple-overtime win.
