ONE STEP FROM THE DOME

INTERVIEW WITH THE FOOTBALL SENIORS
By
: Anna Lupi And Jeanah Ratzlaff
ONE STEP FROM THE DOME
Just one step away from the semifinals of the 2025 South Dakota State Football Championship, some students from the Creative English class took the time to interview the senior members of the team. Together, they looked back on the season and shared their thoughts about the future. The students interviewed were Randall Powers, Jacob Ratzlaff, Lance Odens, and Treyvan Talsma. These seniors have been passionate about football since around the 5th grade. As many of them approach the end of their football journey, it’s heartwarming to remember that this sport is not just about competition—it’s about passion and fun, often passed down by a father, a brother, or a great coach, as was the case for these young men. When asked what it means to be a senior, their answers had a common theme: being an example and a role model—not only for their peers but especially for the younger players. The seniors told us that despite injuries and challenges, some of their best memories come from this sport: homecoming games, touchdowns, team meals, and more. The years have flown by, and now it’s time for their “last dance.” These players are fully focused on winning the semifinal and earning their place at the Dome. They’ll keep working hard, staying focused, and at the same time, cherishing these final moments of playing the sport they love alongside their best friends. Their advice for younger teammates is simple but powerful: work hard, give your best, show leadership, adapt to whatever comes your way, and never give up. “This has been the most fun season of our years here. We’ll do our best to keep it going through next week!” We wish the Football Pirates the best of luck—have fun and give it your all!
