2010 - 10 Years Ago

The Avon School Board voted to start up their own Pre-School.

Friend of Football Recipients were Mark Roberts and Brad Poppe.

A card shower was held for Bessie Hornstra's 90th birthday.

Gymnastics classes start at Avon Boys & Girls Club.

Mark and Julie Tolsma celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary December 28th.

Churches throughout the area celebrated Christmas with a children's Christmas Eve Program.

2000 - 20 Years Ago

Jurrens Repair has moved across town into a new location as they purchased the Sullivan building last year.

Elizabeth Hurd recently placed 1st in the State Oral Competition.

Five of Avon Lady Pirate basketball team recently made some special teams in the State. Annie Lukkes and Robyn Dykstra were named to All-State Academic Team; Jaime Finck, Jessica Jones and Amber Kocmich were named to the All-state Conference Team and Jamie was also named to the All State 2nd Team.

Another 6" to 8" of snow fell this past week with sub zero temperatures.

Leatta Pudwill has retired after 30 years of teaching.

Karla Odens was named 2000 NAIA Volleyball All-American Scholar Athlete.

Mrs. Cameron's 2nd grade class was named class of the month for December.

1990 - 30 Years Ago

Avon Pirates walked all over Wagner last Tuesday in Avon 90-46. Brad Cameron led the offense with 31 points.

Rev. and Mrs. Henry Lang will celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary January 1.

1970 - 50 Years Ago

The youth of First Baptist Church presented the program "Christmas Srangers" Sunday evening. The youth group were guest after the program at the Roland Van Gerpen home and the Rev. Sukut family and Eldon Jurrens.
