The Lady Raiders hosted the Avon Pirates this past Saturday in girls basketball action. Wagner would hold a 17-13 lead after the first and then out score the Pirates 31-14 in the next two quarters as they would finish the game with a 62-42 victory. Ashlyn Koupal would post another double-double with a game high 38 points, 17 rebounds, 9 assists and 7 blocks. Ashlyn would become the all-time leading scorer at Wagner surpassing 2065 points which was held by her Aunt Mandy. Hannah Holzbauer would reach double figures with 12 points, 3 boards, and 3 assists. Mateya Brugier would chip in 5 points. Braxton Nedved, Ravyn Medricky and Hayden Knudsen would all add 2 points. Ravyn would add 3 boards and 3 blocks. Braxton would finish with 3 boards and dish out 4 assists. Hayden would grab 3 boards and dish out 2 assists. Peytyn Wiechmann would round out the scoring with a point. Wagner would finish 25-44 from the field for 57% while the Pirates would be 17-53 for 32%. The Raiders would control the glass with a 31-16 advantage. Wagner would dish out 20 assists. Wagner would commit 17 turnovers compared to 13 from Avon. “We did a great job in transition and finishing at the rim. I also thought we did a great job of making the extra passes and finished with a majority of those. Something that we haven’t been doing a great job of the past few games was finishing at the rim. We now stroll into the bulk of our season and need to continue to focus defensively on team defense so that we can get into our transition game.”

The JV completed the clean sweep with a 40-33 win. Wagner would jump out to a 9-4 lead after the first then trail 15-16 at the half and continue to lead by 2 going into the 4th. Clarah Soukup would lead all scorers with 13 points. Peytyn Wiechmann would finish in double figures with 11 as TyShay Medicine Bear would follow that with 10 points. Valencia Big Bear would round out the scoring with 6 points. “This young group is starting to figure out their roles, running the floor effectively and then how to efficiently get it done on the defensive end.
