American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on December 21, 2023 with 37 members in attendance. Commander Clayton Rados thanked the cooks for the delicious prime rib meal. Chaplain Don Kotab gave the invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados then called the meeting to order Minutes – Adjutant Dave Isebrands read the minutes of our last meeting. Minutes were approved as read.

Treasurer’s Report – Treasurer Dan Gruenewald gave the treasurer’s report. The treasurer’s report was approved as presented.

Americanism – Americanism Officer Kotab stated January is when we pay our 2023 scholarship winners as they enter their second semester. We will have four scholarship winners again this coming year’s graduation. He is still hoping for applicants for our various program opportunities.

Service Officer – Service Officer Merle Stone gave his report.

Baseball – No report. Season has ended.

Legion Riders- The riding season has ended for the Legion Riders Bingo – Bingo has been having good turnouts. We will continue our Sunday Bingo program following the holidays for eight more sessions. We need help for the following Sundays after the holidays. Helpers for January 7th are Ron Kahler and Ray Soukup. January 14th helpers are Tony Krcil and John Crisman.

Veterans Service Officer – No report.

Old Business- Barb and Scott Pechous were invited to our meeting for December but were unable to attend as they are extremely busy now. Commander Rados will ask them again for January. Vice Commander Dennis Clemens used his pickup for the Parade of Lights. The event was well attended as was the Jingle, Mingle & Bingle event held at the Post.

New Business- Commander Rados did visit the school administration regarding the flag retirement. The school does wish to participate. It will be held in the spring when the weather is more conducive for the event. This year’s event will not involve all the grades as it has in the past per school administration.

The sweepstakes tickets are here and will be handed out tonight. The chances of winning at least your money back is 1 in 6 with the added possibility of winning even the larger prizes as well as the grand prize.

Discussion was held on the property just to our west. More discussion will follow in the future. The Mid-winter meeting will be held in Deadwood on February 16-19th. April 6th is the date for the District 8 Spring meeting but no site has been determined yet.

The monthly drawing winner was Jay Youngbluth who donated the money back to the Post. Commander Rados wished everyone Happy Holidays. Don Kotab gave the final prayer and we closed in due form.
