GREER POST #11 AMERICAN LEGION
Greer Post #11 American Legion held its monthly meeting on Oct. 18, 2018 at the Post Home. Commander Robert Kucera called the members to attention. Chaplain Don Kotab gave the invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members and Commander Kucera then declared the October meeting offi cially open.
Guests were Ralph Horner, brother of Arnold Horner, who lives in Arkansas and Chuck Eitemiller.
Adjutant Clayton Rados read the minutes of the Sept. 20th meeting, which were approved as read.
The cooks for the evening were given a nice round of applause for the excellent supper that was served.
Committee reports were given as follows:
Treasurer Dan Gruenwald - The financial report for the month of September was distributed to all members.
Americanism - Don Kotab reported anyone wanting to apply for Youth Trooper Program, you must be a senior and apply by March 27th, 2019. Highway Patrol puts on a week long program.
Bingo: Commander Kucera reported Holiday Bingo starts November 4th at 1pm and will be every Sunday until Christmas.
Service Officer: Merle Stone reported several get well and sympathy cards have been sent out during the month.
Legion Riders are slowing up for the winter.
Old Business: Dennis Clemens reported he is getting bids on replacing countertops in our kitchen. Greg Geiman reported on the Fall District #8 meeting held in Marion. They stressed the need to get more members.
New Business: Jerry Seiner reported Wagner School Veterans Day morning program will have two classes on retiring the colors; 9:30 and 10:00am. The program for Veterans at the school will be at 2:30 pm November 12th. Veterans can drive real close to the door on the west side of the school. Jerry Seiner reported Veterans Day Banquet will be at the American Legion on November 11th with Happy Hour at 6pm and Banquet at 7pm.
Jay Youngbluth reported on the new really nice Veterans Home in Hot Springs. Cost is half of your income. If you have assets of 50 thousand dollars, it will cost about $5,000 a month. If you have a 70% disability, you should get in at no charge.
Clayton Rados reported Annual Sweepstakes will be February 23rd, 2019. The American Legion, along with the Auxiliary, has picked Maggie Barnett as our candidate for National Guard Ball Queen. Legion and Auxiliary will go to Yankton's Human Services Center on November 15th to play bingo and provide a lunch for them.
Jerry Seiner reported you could not get a Cold War medal, but you could get a Certificate that you were in the Cold War.
National Commander Brett Rested will arrive in Sioux Falls November 4th and be in South Dakota until early morning November 10th.
Jerry has ordered blank ammo for Honor Guard funerals.
Jerry reported there are still raffle tickets for sale for the Veterans Day Banquet November 11th in Legion.
Chaplain Don Kotab gave the Final Prayer. The meeting was adjourned in due form.
