The Avon Lady Pirates hit the road Tuesday night, December 16th to open their season against Corsica/Stickney, where they suffered a tough 51-16 loss. Kaydence Metzger led the Lady Pirates on the scoreboard with six points, while Rilyn Thury added four. Jordyn Voigt and Breanna Hento each pulled down three rebounds for Avon, and Metzger recorded one assist. On the defensive end, Metzger finished with four steals and Thury added three. Avon struggled shooting the ball, connecting on 6 of 30 shots from the field for 20 percent. The Lady Pirates were unable to find success from beyond the arc, going 0-for-12 on three-point attempts, while shooting 6 of 18 from two-point range for 33 percent. From the free-throw line, Avon went 4 of 6 for 67 percent. The Lady Pirates committed 20 turnovers in the season opener as they continue to work through early-season adjustments. The Avon Lady Pirates traveled to Centerville on Thursday, December 18, where they suffered the loss 23–51. Lexi Vanderlei and Emersyn Haenfler led the Pirates in scoring with 5 points each. Vanderlei also shared team-high rebounding honors with Jordyn Voigt, as each pulled down 5 rebounds on the night. Avon struggled to find consistency offensively, shooting 26 percent from the field after connecting on 8 of 31 attempts. The Lady Pirates went 3 of 9 from three-point range for 33 percent and finished 5 of 22 on two-point shots for 23 percent. From the free-throw line, Avon shot 33 percent, making 4 of 12 attempts. The Pirates committed 15 turnovers in the contest. Despite the setback, the Lady Pirates continue to gain valuable experience early in the season as they look to build momentum moving forward.
