CLASSROOM OF THE WEEK: FOURTH GRADE

By
Hensley Talsma
There has been a lot going on in the fourth grade lately. All of their Pirate Time groups are reading various novels. In language arts, they have been covering verb tenses and reading stories about different types of arts in the world and how they relate to each other. Their math class has been getting into equivalent fractions the last week. Science has been focused on rocks, minerals, weathering, and erosion. SD History has been focused on the past and present effect of buffalo on the state. In Social Studies, they have been working on the different geography aspects of the southwest region of the United States. There have been many great moments for fourth grade already this year. They have completed many science projects, which Mr. Lagge says is probably his favorite part. He has always loved doing different hands-on activities and his current class seems to enjoy them too. Creating electrical circuits and windmills using batteries and lights has been his favorite. It was a lab where the students just kept trying new things, and Mr. Lagge said it was fun to watch their curiosity and creativity show. Mr. Lagge says he is just really looking forward to spending time with his students. They bring a lot of energy and excitement to every day. He added, “We have some very interesting topics and experiments to cover in science, which should be fun. It’s also just really enjoyable to watch how much they can learn and grow in a year!” Mr. Lagge has been teaching four grade in Avon for five years now. In his spare time, he really enjoys watching sports and conversing with family and friends. A fun fact about Mr. Lagge is that in the last year, he has visited twelve different national parks and monuments!
