Avon teeners opened their season hosting Freeman on Sunday May 22. Avon was held to four hits and three runs by experienced Freeman pitching, coming off of spring baseball. Leading hitters for Avon were Aziah Meyer and Trace Pelton with one hit each, Christian Doom hit a double and a single. John Fathke and Tyler Tjeerdsma each scored. Pitching for Avon were Landon Thury, Noah Watchorn, Devin Rucktaeschel, Christian Doom, and Tyler Tjeerdsma. Final score was 8-3 in favor of Freeman.
Avon hosted Gayville on Tuesday May 24th, winning 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Landon Thury picked up the win pitching seven innings in relief. Leading hitters were Landon Mudder with two doubles and a run scored; Trace Pelton with a single, stolen base, and two runs scored; Christian Doom with a single, 4 stolen bases and a run scored; John Fathke with single. Alshamon Gunter had 2 steals.
Avon traveled to Tyndall on Sunday May 29, hosts Scotland/Menno on June 14, and travels to Freeman on June 28. More games to be scheduled throughout the month of June. The teeners would like to thank Kenny Powers for donating $100, and the Lions Club for donating $400. Money will go toward jerseys and hats.
