The Avon Lady Pirates were on the road last week, picking up an impressive win before coming up short in their second outing. Avon opened the week with a strong performance at Alcester/Hudson, earning a decisive 57-19 victory. Rilyn Thury led all scorers with 18 points and was active on both ends of the floor, pulling down eight rebounds and recording five steals. Lexi Vanderlei added seven rebounds, while Jordyn Voigt dished out five assists in the win. The Lady Pirates were efficient offensively, shooting 51 percent from the field by sinking 22 of 43 shots. Avon connected on 38 percent from beyond the arc (5 of 13), shot 57 percent on two-point attempts (17 of 30), and went 8 of 12 from the free throw line for 67 percent. Defensively, Avon forced mistakes while committing just eight turnovers of their own. The win brought the Lady Pirates’ record to 3-3.
