Students and staff at Andes Central were invited to read books with a Native American theme and/or written by an Indigenous author during November in honor of Native American Heritage Month. After reading, students completed an entry slip which included writing a sentence sharing what they thought about each book. Participants gathered in the school library last Friday for the drawing of prizes. In total, 36 people joined the reading challenge and read 115 Native books.

Second grade had 22 entries from ten students: Suttyn Bergin, Sutton Calandra, Dravion Caple, Jacob Derry, Kharis Dion, Onyx Gallegos, Jensen Hjelm, Emma Johanneson, Nevaeh Little and Memphis Schmidt.

Third grade had 34 entries from four students: Cedar Archambeau, Taryn Bennett, Brynlee Kaczor and Kourtney Svatos.

Fourth grade had 37 entries from 15 students: Max Abdo, Sarene Arrow, Shaniya Aungie, Arthur Denney, Kateline Derry, Addison Deurmier, Ke’Ziah Garcia, Rhiannen Horned Eagle, Bella Johanneson, Kya Mousseau, Tessa Nielsen, Madelyn Ronfeldt, Demi Rouse, Ella Swanson and Brayden Thunder Horse.

Fifth grade had 19 entries from four students: Leila Aungie, Finnegan Hopkins, Char’lee Romero and Cheryl Romero.

Justin St. Pierre participated from the high school; staff members Rachael Arpan and Jackie Deurmier also joined the challenge.
