Bruce Daniel McCoy of Platte City was born February 14, 1952 to Lawrence and Anna (Pride) McCoy in Columbus, Ohio. He declared victory over death and entered eternal life with his Heavenly Father and Savior on August 29, 2018. He grew up in rural Kansas and Nebraska. Bruce graduated from Blue Hill High School in 1970 and joined the US Army in 1972.

Mickelson, ND; Fort Riley, Kansas; Camp Red Cloud, South Korea; and Robinson, IL until 1979. After seven years in the military, he worked as a State Trooper on the Nebraska State Patrol before going on to school at the University of Nebraska where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Early Education and his Master’s degree in Education Administration. Asaneducator, Bruce worked as an elementary teacher in Winnebago, NE, an elementary principal in Springfield, Wagner, Saint Joseph’s Indian School, Chamberlain and as Education Director at Star Academy in Custer. Bruce also spent those years coaching High School football and boys and girls basketball.

Bruce is hugely remembered for his investment into the lives of local youth. He was a leader but mostly an encourager, coach and mentor. Bruce loved riding his motorcycle with his wife, family and friends. Along with his wife, Bruce spent the majority of their marriage faithfully serving in the churches they attended. Bruce had a heart for children and loved teaching and encouraging youth as a Sunday School teacher and Youth Group Minister and even opened a Youth Center in Crete, NE. He also served as an adult Sunday School teacher, bible study leader, served on the sound and tech team and as an Elder at the Wagner Community Church. Bruce was a loving and loyal husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and friend. Bruce was so proud of his family and cherished the times when they were all together. His presence, humor and wisdom will be dearly missed.

Bruce is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Nancy McCoy, son Eric McCoy (Jennica) of Cheyenne WY, daughter Mary Pearson (Jason) of Lincoln NE, son David McCoy (Mary Jo) of Platte City MO, and son Andrew McCoy (Janae) of Menno.
