Erin Tobin and Lee Qualm are running for the District 21 Senate seat. Erin, a west river rancher’s wife, and her husband have 2 children in elementary school and is a certified nurse practitioner. Lee, a farmer and rancher from west of Platte, has been in the SD House of Representatives for 8 years.

In the past, I have been outspoken about my disdain for high tech long range sniping as a means of hunting. As this so-called sport becomes increasingly popular, I have not changed that opinion. I feel that getting close enough to the game to make a reasonable shot is a part of hunting.

Dear Editor: Retired Doctor of Orthopedic Medicine Dr Jack Billion of Sioux Falls, and retired 22 year legislator Frank Kloucek of Scotland, ask South Dakotan's to stay home, but when you must go out wear face masks in all public spaces like grocery stores.

Today we are hearing very much about COVID-19 virus. TV, radio and newspapers and so on are mentioning negative points of this virus. But one thing that is positive about COVID-19 is that it makes people realize that life could end unexpected.

In 2019, farms and ranches enrolled in the South Dakota Center for Farm/Ranch Management program experienced a decrease in net farm income from 2018, according to data compiled for analysis. The median net farm income in 2019 was $40,415 compared to $53,888 in 2018.

Dear Editor, In less than two months we will pause to remember loved ones on Memorial Day and many of us will be taking floral tributes to the cemeteries. As we walk through these revered grounds we expect them to be well maintained places of rest.

A FEEL GOOD STORY ABOUT HUNTERS HELPING HUNTERS

Right now the news on most every TV channel is depressing – rising death count, not enough hospital beds, not enough ventilators. We need a good news story – something about good people making the extra effort. Just such a story boosted my overall morale this morning.
