Today’s column may be the most important I’ve ever written with regard to both issues. We hunters are facing a major crisis. Across the board, hunter numbers are dwindling. Our wildlife are at risk as hunters finance conservation. Our hunting is at risk as we become a small minority.

Wed like to thank our children for putting on a card shower for our 60th Wedding Anniversary. We feel so blessed to be remembered and thought of with cards, phone calls, facebook messages, flowers and gifts. Family and friends are so special during this time of social distancing.

Greer Post #11 American Legion held its monthly meeting June 18th at the Post Home. Commander Robert Kucera called the members to attention. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

When I last wrote about a reader’s successful deer hunt, I asked that any readers with a good deer story should contact me. Column reader Mark Sedlacek of Scotland gave me a call, and I paid him a visit.

From time to time I have read articles about the states that supposedly offer the best deer hunting opportunities. The most objective (does it measure what it is supposed to measure) article I have ever read appeared in the June 2020 issue of North American Whitetail.

Perhaps the oldest book in my office is a maroon hardcover copy of the South Dakota Guide. Published in 1938, the book was a project of the Depression-era Works Progress Administration.

Summer Reading Program begins this week at the Library virtually. The theme this year is Imagine Your Story. The programming started June 15th and concludes on July 17th. The library will be posting videos of library personnel reading storybooks, presenting puppet shows and explaining craft ideas.

City Elections were held in Pickstown and Wagner last week. The results are: Wagner Ward I - Rich Dufur challenged incumbent Scott Alderink and took the majority of the votes 26-14. Ward 3 - Edward Stimpson challenged incumbent Roger Schroeder. Schroeder took the majority of the votes 59-30.
