CHARLES MIX COUNTY FARMERS UNION DAY CAMP

Farmers Union hosted a day camp in Geddes, on June 24th. Youth spent the afternoon focused on learning more about the history of Cooperatives through games and interactive lessons. Time was spent playing games, making crafts, and learning about renewable and nonrenewable resources.

Sunday night a thunderstorm came through Avon with heavy rainfall leaving the city park flooded. Locals reported rainfall totals from 2.95 up to 3.30 inches. With the hot, windy weather we had last week the rainfall and cooler temperatures will be a good change and will help the crops.

POST 7319 AND SEINER HONORED AT 95TH ANNUAL VFW CONVENTION

The 95th Annual Department of South Dakota Veterans of Foreign Wars Convention was hosted by VFW Post 2038 of Pierre, June 19-22 at the Pierre Ramkota Inn. More than 150 VFW and Auxiliary members from throughout the state attended.
Post 7319 Quartermaster, Jerry Seiner, left received a “White Hat” from Dr. James Tuorila, National VFW Surgeon General.

AVON FIRE DEPARTMENT ATTENDS STATE FIRE SCHOOL

Twelve members of the Avon Fire Department along with most of their families attended South Dakota State Fire School in Watertown over the weekend. Combined, nearly 20 different classes were taken to further educate our firefighters to better help our community in times of need.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM KICK OFF

Avon Public Library kicked off their Summer Reading Program with a heroic start Monday, June 9. Avon’s very own Officer Ed Young joined them at the library to read a special story, answer lots of great kid questions and even let the kids explore his police pickup!
